FRA and national human rights bodies seek to further strengthen their cooperation

Leading representatives of national human rights bodies and the European Ombudsman Office will come to FRA on 15 October to discuss how to further strengthen the human rights landscape in Europe by bringing national human rights institutions (NHRIs), national Equality Bodies and Ombudsperson institutions together.

FRA’s role in this process will be a particular focus of the discussions. The Chair of Equinet, representing national Equality Bodies, the Chair of the European Group of NHRIs, representing NHRIs, the Office of the European Ombudsman, the Chairperson of the FRA Management Board, as well as representatives of the Council of Europe and the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights, will attend the meeting to discuss future common interests and areas of collaboration. Participants will also discuss how to raise awareness of redress mechanisms to tackle underreporting of discrimination and maladministration. Examples of synergies between the different organisations will also be heard. Participants will also have the chance to attend the annual Cooperation and Coordination Meeting between FRA and national Equality Bodies that will take place on 16 October.
