On 27 March 2013, the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) will publish a new report entitled Fundamental Rights at Europe’s southern sea borders.
The report, which will initially be presented to the European Home Affairs Commissioner Cecilia Malmström on 25 March, presents the results of in-depth research in four Member States at the EU’s southern sea borders. It describes the hazardous journey and deaths at sea, discusses current maritime surveillance mechanisms and cooperation with third countries, and details the treatment of migrants when they arrive on shore.
