Measuring the right to independent living

The Agency is organising a public event on how to measure implementation of people with disabilities’ right to live independently.

The right is enshrined in the UN’s disability convention that has been ratified by the EU and 27 of its Member States. The event will take place on 22 March in Geneva, during the 17th session of the UN’s Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

During the event, the Agency will present preliminary results from its work on human rights indicators covering the right to live independently and be included in the community. The UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the European Disability Forum will also discuss different ways to measure rights implementation on the ground.
