On 18 January, FRA will speak about the fundamental rights implications of the large-scale EU IT systems used in migration.

It is part of a series of training courses for staff of the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, Frontex.

The courses draw on FRA’s work. FRA will raise awareness of the possible fundamental rights risks that can emerge if safeguards are not duly implemented. It will highlight the importance of data protection principles as well as necessary safeguards for when law enforcement accesses the systems. They will also cover how to ensure the right to asylum and to effective remedy.

The EU set up six large-scale IT systems to help manage migration, asylum and borders. They also serve to enhance judicial cooperation and contribute to strengthening internal security within the EU.
