At the end of 2016, the members of the EU Framework to promote, protect and monitor the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) adopted the Framework’s 2017-2018 work programme.
On 19-20 December, the Agency, in cooperation with the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), conducted two workshops on site management and fundamental rights protection in the migration hotspot on the Greek island of Leros.
The Agency submitted input to the report from the Office of the UN’s High Commissioner for Human Rights on the impact of multiple and intersecting forms of discrimination and violence on the rights of women and girls.
The Agency presented indicators it has developed on the right to independent living and be included in the community according to Article 19 of the UN’s Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities (CRPD) at a conference organised by EVA asbl.
The Agency joined an OECD panel discussion on 15 December 2016 in Paris reviewing the socio-economic outcomes of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people. During the discussion the OECD presented to Member State delegations its programme to assess economic case for inclusive policies for LGBT people.
On 15 December, the Agency took part in a conference organised by the Greek Reception and Identification Service. The Agency moderated a panel on European best practices relating to the identification and reception of asylum seekers.
This year the Agency turns 10. To mark the occasion, a series of high profile events are planned, starting with the FRA 10 year symposium in late February in Vienna. This is to publicly acknowledge and give thanks to the host country that has greatly supported the Agency over the last ten years.
