The Freedom Drive has taken place every two years since 2003. It allows the members of the Independent Living Movement, as well as European Parliamentarians to meet and discuss independent living issues. This opportunity will help the FRA collect valuable input as it finalises its report on independent living, due to be released later this year. The independent living philosophy emphasises that people with disabilities best know their needs, underlining their right to make decisions for themselves, participate in society and decide on their own living arrangements. In support, the FRA has produced a series of general information postcards in 20 languages and factsheets to better explain the rights of people with disabilities.
FRA supports independent living for people with disabilities
The FRA is speaking at the European Network for Independent Living (ENIL) conference on the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Strasbourg on 13 September 2011. While in Strasbourg, the FRA is also attending ENIL’s fifth Freedom Drive.
