Expert meeting on research into children in justice

On 12 October, the FRA held an expert meeting on “Researching with children in the justice context”, as part of its project on Children and Justice.

The meeting focused on interviewing children, in preparation for the project’s activities in 2013. Various ideas were expressed during the meeting on topics like: ethical considerations of involving children in research, protection mechanisms, appropriate research methodologies for different age groups and vulnerable groups, suitable tactics for approaching participants and which researchers, methods and areas should be addressed. There was a general consensus that involving children in this particular research will ensure a more comprehensive view of the way children are treated in the EU’s justice systems.
