The hearing focused on access to rights and access to justice of undocumented children and their families. One session was dedicated to detention of migrant children. FRA took part in the opening panel with a keynote address on access to fundamental rights and detention of undocumented children, based on FRA’s findings and research carried out on the situation of irregular migrants in the EU and on separated, asylum-seeking children.
Defining the EU’s role in protecting the rights of undocumented migrant children
On 14 November, the Platform for International Cooperation on Undocumented Migrants (PICUM), together with the French MEP Nathalie Griesbeck, organised a public hearing at the European Parliament on undocumented children entitled “A child is a child: Defining the EU’s role in protecting the rights of undocumented migrant children”.
