It was an opportunity to explore ways to enhance cooperation between FRA and the members of national parliaments. A number of proposals were put forward: for instance improving dissemination of FRA’s work to the relevant parliamentary committees, delivering targeted FRA presentations to inform national debates on fundamental rights issues and encouraging visits of national parliamentary committees to the agency.
One of the conclusions of FRA’s external evaluation was that FRA should further increase its relevance and visibility at national level, including engaging with national parliaments. To help address this, FRA’s Director wrote a letter to the Secretary Generals of all national parliaments, asking them to appoint a contact point for FRA within their parliamentary administrations. This should help improve the flow of information between FRA and national parliaments.
