FRA strengthens its cooperation with Ombudsmen

FRA took part in the 9th National Seminar of the European Network of Ombudsmen in Dublin from 16-17 September.

The conference broadly covered the consequences of austerity measures with respect to the number of citizens’ complaints and the work of the Ombudsmen. FRA discussed the consequences of institutional crises in several member states for the work of human rights bodies with several Central- and Eastern European Ombudsmen. On 20 September, FRA presented its ‘Joining up fundamental rights toolkit’ during the 25th anniversary meeting of the European Ombudsman Institute (EOI) in Innsbruck and discussed how the toolkit could be used by local and regional Ombudsmen. Participants also discussed the independence of Europe’s national Ombudsmen with representatives of FRA, the Council of Europe and the European Ombudsman.
