On 24 August, FRA presented the results from Germany of its EU-wide survey on hate crime and discrimination by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people to the German Federal Ministry of Justice during the Ministry’s Open Doors event in the presence of Minister Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger.

In her reaction to the presentation, the Minister stressed the survey’s value to policy makers: “It is worthy to take a deeper look in this study because data from such a large scale survey has the potential to bring a well-founded change into the political debate.” The Minister acknowledged the need for more political action to achieve full equality for LGBT people in Germany, especially for transgender people. Ms Leutheusser-Schnarrenberg identified the need for further political action to ensure full rights for LGBT people.
