New migration project monitors forced returns

FRA gave a presentation on the fundamental rights of migrants in return procedures at a kick-off meeting for a project on forced return monitoring on 20 November.

The presentation also suggested key criteria that countries should consider when monitoring returns at airports. The project is being run by the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) and is being funded by EU Return Fund. Austria, Bulgaria, Greece, Hungary Luxembourg, Malta, Portugal and Switzerland have come together in the project to jointly set up a pool of monitors. The project aims to assist Member States to set up effective monitoring procedures of forced returns, as part of the EU’s Return Directive.
