FRA speaks during Italian IDAHOT event

FRA was invited for a meeting of the Italian authorities to mark the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT) on 17 May.

FRA gave an overview of EU legal standards on sexual orientation and gender identity as well as data on Italy from FRA’s EU LGBT survey. Statements from the President of Italy, as well as the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs, both stressed the importance of IDAHO and the will of the Italian government to address inequalities faced by LGBTI people. Participants recognised the daily difficulties LGBT people face in Italy and welcomed the government’s adoption of a national action plan to help promote and protect the rights of LGBT people in Italy.
