FRA takes part in OSCE Human Dimension Committee Meeting

On 1 July, FRA took part in the OSCE Human Dimension Committee session devoted to the ‘Promotion and protection of human rights while countering terrorism’ at the invitation of the Norwegian Chairmanship of the OSCE Human Dimension Committee.

Two leading international experts addressed the session in Vienna. Professor Martin Scheinin from the European University Institute, and former UN Special Rapporteur on Promotion and Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms while Countering Terrorism spoke about the evolving agenda of human rights and counter-terrorism, from torture to surveillance. Alex Conte, Director of the International Commission of Jurists, spoke about human rights and terrorist sanction regimes. The meeting discussions will feed FRA’s current research on National intelligence authorities and surveillance in the EU: Fundamental rights safeguards and remedies.
