Implementing the ‘best interest of the child’ principle in practice

A Council of Europe conference has explored the challenges decision makers face when implementing the complex concept of the child’s best interests.

The conference, organised by the Belgian Chairmanship of the Council of Europe, was held in Brussels from 9 to 10 December. It focused on ‘best interests of the child’ in general, and in family affairs, in particular. FRA’s input focused on how justice professionals interviewed as part of FRA’s child-friendly justice project interpret and use the ‘best interest of the child’ in judicial proceedings in practice.
