Portuguese police training course looks at mainstreaming fundamental rights

FRA gave a presentation on mainstreaming fundamental rights based on the Agency’s fundamental rights training toolkit for police officers to a Portuguese Police Academy training course in November 2015.

FRA presented several case studies on non-discrimination and how to practically overcome policing-related challenges. The objective of the course was to enable the participants to: understand the fundamental rights relevant for field missions; recognise the fundamental rights dimension in all phases of missions from planning to deployment; develop know-how about leading and conducting operations (policing, training, mentoring, advising, monitoring) by prioritizing respect for fundamental rights; and create the skills to set up mechanisms for avoiding abuse at all levels.
