Crime of Torture and National Independent Commission: is Italy still credible in the field of human rights?

The Agency contributed to a parliamentary hearing in the Italian Chamber of Deputies.

The event looked at two human rights-related issues where Italy seeks to improve: National Human Rights Institutions and the definition of torture. The Agency contributed to the debate on the establishment of an NHRI by stressing the links between the EU and NHRIs, and the added value of an NHRI in an EU context. The event sought to add momentum to renewed attempts in the Italian parliament to pass legislation establishing an NHRI with a view to A-status accreditation.
