Conference explores return procedures in Greece

On 27 November, the Agency highlighted the potential fundamental rights impact of return procedures during the Greek Ombudsman’s conference on the return of third country nationals and the rule of law.

FRA gave examples of positive practices and spoke of the challenging situations that were observed during its visits to Greek and Italian migration hotspots. The conference was opened by the Greek Ombudsman, who presented the main findings of the Greek Ombudsman report on the return of third-country nationals as well as the main challenges related to returns from Greece. The conference brought together representatives from the Greek Ombudsman Office, Hellenic Police, Council of State, Frontex, UNHCR as well as representatives of Ombudsman Office in Spain and Denmark who carry out external return monitoring in their countries.
