European Parliament seminar explores democracy, rule of law and fundamental rights in the EU

The Agency outlined its plans to establish a European Fundamental Rights Information System during a European Parliament seminar in Brussels on 9 January.

The information system aims to bring together relevant EU, UN and Council of Europe information on fundamental rights to improve visibility and accessibility of existing monitoring mechanisms. The seminar was organised by Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe in the framework of the 2018 edition of their New Year’s seminar. Various speakers, including ALDE President Guy Verhofstadt, MEP Sophie in't Veld and the European Ombudsman Emily O’Reilly discussed the situation of the rule of law and the state of fundamental rights in the EU and its Member States.
