New EU Children’s Participation Platform Advisory Board meets for the first time

FRA took part in the first meeting of the advisory board of the EU’s Child Participation Platform on 12 December.

The Platform aims to enable children to connect with each other and with the EU. It seeks to engage children in EU decision-making processes, successfully, effectively and safely through opportunities online and offline. In the longer term, this will enable and promote a more systemic approach to child participation.

The members of the Advisory board shall bring in their expertise and insights. They include the European Commission, European Parliament, FRA, international organisations, child rights organisations and children.

This first Advisory Board meeting was a good opportunity to learn about the objectives and current state of play of the Child Participation Platform.

FRA contributed to the discussion of key principles and methodologies of child participation. Participants also discussed the role of the Advisory Board and next steps to create a children’s panel and develop the Platform’s work programme.

The creation of a Child Participation Platform was part of the EU’s Child Rights Strategy.
