Roundtable on rights of transgender people (22-23 September, Vienna)

Roundtable on rights of transgender peopleOn 22-23 September the FRA is hosting a roundtable event jointly organised with the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, entitled 'Rights to equality, life and security of the person: bridging the gap for transgender people'. The two day event gathers representatives of the EU institutions, international organisations, national governments, equality bodies and civil society organisations. They will discuss the issue of gender identity in non-discrimination law, transphobic and homophobic speech and crime, and the FRA's upcoming survey on discrimination against and victimisation of LGBT people.

Fundamental Rights Conference 2011 - visit the new conference website (2 September)

Ten months after its launch, the FRA fan page on Facebook has quickly climbed to 3,000 fans. This includes not just regular citizens but already now more than 300 European, national and local organisations actively engaged in fundamental rights. They have joined forces with FRA on Facebook to collectively raise awareness and promote fundamental rights in the EU read more.

Fundamental Rights Conference WebsiteEntitled 'Dignity and rights of irregular migrants', this year's Fundamental Rights Conference (FRC) will address challenges faced by irregular migrants in the European Union. The FRC is the flagship annual event of the FRA. This year's conference is organised with the support of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union on 21-22 November in Warsaw. It will bring together about 300 participants from across the EU, including policy-makers, experts and practitioners from the local to the international level. The Agency's EU-wide research on the topic will inform the discussions. Visit the conference website here.

FRA research methodology: delivering evidence-based advice (18 August)

 

Methodology FactsheetAccording to its founding Regulation, the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights is tasked with providing ‘assistance and expertise' to the European Union and its Member States to support them ‘to fully respect fundamental rights' when implementing EU law. This takes the form of delivering expert advice based on ‘objective, reliable and comparable information and data'. This factsheet explains the methodologies used to collect and analyse the information and data that forms the basis for the 'conclusions and opinions' it delivers to the EU and its Member States in order to assist them to improve respect for fundamental rights when developing and implementing legislation and policy.

Austrian State Secretary for Integration Sebastian Kurz pays visit to FRA (29 July, Vienna)
Austrian State Secretary for Integration Sebastian KurzSebastian Kurz, State Secretary for Integration in the Austrian Ministry for the Interior, visited the FRA on 29 July to discuss possible avenues for co-operation in the field of integration. Discussed were related priorities of the Austrian federal government at European and international level in order to identify possibilities for future co-operation. FRA Director Morten Kjaerum presented the general work, structure and mandate of the Agency to Mr Kurz and his entourage. Also on the agenda was a presentation of FRA's current projects related to integration, such as irregular migrants employed as domestic workers, fundamental rights training for police and data collection on asylum seekers as a group for integration.
