Organisation in the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA)

The European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) is composed of a Directorate and five Departments. The FRA currently employs around 70 members of staff.

The mission of the Directorate is to guide and manage the FRA, ensuring that its objectives and related tasks are achieved efficiently and effectively and in accordance with the direction given by the Management Board.

The work of the Freedoms and Justice Department focuses on the following areas: access to justice; asylum, migration and borders; and information society, privacy and data protection.

The work of the Equality and Citizens' Rights Department focuses on equality and non-discrimination; racism; and the rights of the child.

 

Communication and Awareness Raising

Communication and Awareness Raising

The tasks of the Communication and Awareness Raising Department are to:

  • Support the FRA in its role of providing evidence-based advice, by delivering research results in a timely, targeted and appropriate format in cooperation with its stakeholders (such as scientific reports, factsheets, background documents, meetings and briefing sessions);
  • Raise public awareness of fundamental rights in cooperation with the FRA’s stakeholders;
  • Actively disseminate information about the FRA’s work through, for instance, its website, social media, newsletters, audio-visual products, brochures and other promotional materials.

Administration

The role of the Administration department is to define efficient and effective working methods to support the operational activities of the Agency. To this end, it strives to make use of lean administrative processes and innovative technological solutions. Its areas of responsibility cover Finance & Procurement, Quality and ICT & Facilities.

The core activities of the Human Resources and Planning Department include: staff policy formulation and implementation, recruitment, training and development, staff well-being and the coordination of the annual work programme and the monitoring and evaluation of the impact of the FRA's work.
