European Union Institutions
The FRA and the European Commission
The Agency cooperates closely with the Institutions of the European Union, and in particular with the European Commission.
Coordination between the FRA and the European Commission include:
- Agency collects data on fundamental rights, conducts research and analysis;
- Agency provides independent advice to policy-makers;
- Agency develops communication activities to disseminate the results of its work;
- Agency raises awareness of fundamental rights;
- Exchange of Information on measures taken or planned by the Commission and Community Institutions in the field of fundamental rights;
- Administrative, financial and budgetary relations.
The FRA works in particular with the following Directorate Generals:
- DG Justice and DG Home Affairs, which are the main contact partners in the European Commission
- DG Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities, which has the responsibility for the implementation of Article 13 and the Community's programme PROGRESS for employment and social solidarity (2007 - 2013) is one of the main contact partner in the European Commission.
- DG Education and Culture responsible for relations with Civil society but also youth-related programmes such as Youth.
- DG Enlargement through work with the Phare programme and cooperation on the issue of Roma
- DG Research responsible for the Seventh Framework Programme (2007 - 2013).
- DG External Relations.
The FRA and the European Parliament
The Agency has regular contacts and cooperates on specific issues and activities with the European Parliament, through its Committees in particular the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs.
Examples of past cooperation with the European Parliament include:
- Active participation in various meetings and hearings of the different Committees on issues within the FRA's remit;
- Presentation of the FRA Annual Report to the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs;
- Contribution with briefing papers to European Parliament debates and resolutions.
Contribution with data and research for specific reports such as the Parliament's annual "Report on the situation of fundamental rights in the EU".
The FRA and other EU agencies and bodies
The Agency cooperates with a number of other EU agencies and bodies on specific fundamental rights topics, especially in the EU policy area Justice, Liberty and Security. In particular, FRA cooperates with the following institutions:

FRONTEX - European Agency for the Management of Operational Cooperation at the External Borders (topics: human trafficking, unaccompanied minors, refugee situation in Greece)

EIGE - European Institute for Gender Equality (gender discrimination and gender equality issues)

EUROJUST - The European Union's Judicial Cooperation Unit (human trafficking)
