Cooperation with International Organisations
The FRA and the United Nations
The FRA cooperates with many organisations within the UN system.
Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR)The Agency maintains working relations with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in a variety of areas, in particular in its work relating to the combat against racism, xenophobia and related intolerances.
UNESCOThe Agency cooperates with UNESCO on a project concerning combating racism and xenophobia at local level and addressing racism in football. For this purpose, the Agency is a member of the Steering committee of the European Coalition of Cities Against Racism, that UNESCO helped to set up, which brings together cities in Europe that are committed to combat racism and xenophobia through cities policies and action.
UNHCRThe Agency has established working relations with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to coordinate its work on asylum and immigration, the rights of the child, and on other issues of mutual concern.
Other UN bodiesThe FRA also liaises with UNICEF on the rights of the child, the International Labour Organisations (ILO) on issues related to racial or ethnic discrimination in employmenton, trafficking, and in particular 'discrimination testing'. The Agency also cooperates with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) with respect to the development and writing of a UN Manual on victim survey research.
The FRA and the OSCE
Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR)The Agency has developed close working relations with the ODIHR, especially on issues concerning hate crime data collection and the combat against anti-Semitism and Islamophobia, as well as on addressing the situation of Roma, Sinti and Travellers. The Agency also worked with the ODIHR in the field of information management, and contributed to the development of ODIHR's Tolerance and Non-Discrimination information system.
High Commissioner on National Minorities (HCNM)Following on a project concerning the situation of Romani women, the Agency has developed further cooperation on issues concerning Roma migration and freedom of movement. This project is also joined by the Contact Point on Roma and Sinti Issues in ODIHR and the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe.
