Local and regional authorities

Fundamental rights are first and foremost exercised at the local level. Local and regional authorities are competent for many policy areas that impact heavily on people's fundamental rights.

The Agency cooperates with the European Union Committee of the Regions, with various city networks, and with individual local and regional authorities interested in promoting fundamental rights at their level of governance.

Annual Dialogue with EU Committee of the Regions on multi-level protection of fundamental rights

The FRA and the European Union Committee of the Regions (CoR) held their 3rd Annual Dialogue on Multi-level Protection and Promotion of Fundamental Rights on 17th October 2011. Local communities network overview

Local Communities Network (LCN) bringing together the FRA, the Committee of the Regions and policy officers from a number of European cities of for policy dialogue and the exchange of good practices in addressing racism and discrimination, as well as issues specific to the situation of Muslim communities.

Joined Up Governance

Joined-up governance project
The FRA's joined-up governance project seeks to explore and develop methods on how to enhance fundamental rights implementation across various government levels. The project aims to support collaboration between national, regional and local governments in addressing complex fundamental rights challenges in an integrated way.

Diversity Day 2009Diversity Day - a programme of youth awareness-raising events implemented in a number EU cities.
The Diversity Day project was piloted in 2007, aiming at promoting understanding for principles of equality and respect to diversity among young people in Europe.
