1st FRA Symposium 2010 - Strengthening the fundamental rights architecture in the EU

The first FRA Annual Symposium took place in Vienna on 7 May 2010. The focus was on the institutional mechanisms to protect, promote and monitor fundamental rights in the EU. The Agency invited representatives from EU institutions, equality bodies, data protection authorities, national human rights institutions and national government officials to discuss the findings of 4 FRA reports which were launched during the symposium.

The 4 reports were issued by the FRA giving evidence that data protection authorities, equality bodies and national human rights institutions across the European Union are in need of additional support. These reports are looking into four sets of highly related issues that all contribute to the overarching architecture of fundamental rights protection in the EU: equality bodies, data protection authorities, national human rights institutions and the Racial Equality Directive’s impact.
