FRA Symposium 2011 on fundamental rights indicators

Chair of the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) in the UK. He became head of Commission for Racial Equality in 2003, and on its abolition in 2006 was appointed full-time chair of its successor, the EHRC.
The 2nd Annual FRA Symposium is set in the context of the FRA’s role to develop methods and standards that would improve comparability, objectivity and reliability of data at the European level.
The 2011 Symposium on "Using indicators to measure fundamental rights in the EU: challenges and solutions" will bring together key experts and stakeholders, with a view to formulating suggestions on the development and use of indicators as a tool to measure progress in the implementation of fundamental rights in the EU. The event builds on the work of FRA and other actors, including in particular the conceptual and methodological framework on indicators for human rights developed under the auspices of the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and the Treaty Bodies.
Around 90 experts from national government agencies and specialised bodies, specialists from international and non-governmental organisations, and data collection institutions are expected to attend. Participation is upon invitation only.
Taking into consideration the FRA’s own thematic priorities, the 2011 Symposium will focus its discussions on indicators in five key areas which are particularly vulnerable to rights violations.

The proceedings of the 2011 Symposium, as well as the FRA follow up activities, will be made publicly available on the FRA website.
The report is outlining the main discussion results and findings of the Symposium. We would much welcome feedback on the report to further our ongoing efforts on fundamental rights indicators.
