EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA)

The EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) has a mandate to advise EU institutions and EU Member States on fundamental rights. Marking 60 years from the 1938 Pogrom, also known as “Kristallnacht pogroms”, the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights launched a five-year long project on Holocaust education and human rights education in 2008. The project follows on several pilot initiatives done jointly with Yad Vashem, which used videoconferences, to facilitate a discussion between Holocaust survivors and school children in Austria and a follow up class with Yad Vashem staff. The project Holocaust Education and Human Rights Education 2008-2012 consists of a research on the role of the original sites and museums in the Holocaust and Human Rights Education, the development of a Handbook for teachers on the Holocaust and Human Rights Education and this Toolkit for educators.
