Annual conference on EU border management takes place

FRA contributed to the annual training event on EU border management. The European Law Academy (ERA) and the European Coast and Border Guard Agency (Frontex) organised the event. FRA was part of a session on fundamental rights shared with the new Frontex Fundamental Rights Officer.

It centred on pending and recently adopted EU legislative files on large-scale EU IT systems and their interoperability, the role of eu-LISA, as well as Schengen governance, migrant smuggling and fundamental rights. FRA input focused on the applicable fundamental rights framework. This included the EU Fundamental Rights Charter, the Schengen Borders Code and the European Integrated Border Management Strategy. FRA also covered various safeguards in the EU borders acquis and current pressing fundamental rights issues at external borders. The three-day online training event took place from 9 to 11 June.
