On 12 December, FRA will speak at the online seminar in Turku about Human Rights Cities and its framework for localizing human rights.

FRA will present the framework. It will highlight why it is importance that more European cities joins the initiative.

The event is the closing seminar of a research project by the Institute for Human Rights of the Åbo Akademi in Turku. The project looked at four different human rights city models, namely Vienna, Utrecht, Lund and York, and what can be learned from them.

Results of the research are gathered in the ‘Becoming a Human Rights City’ policy paper. The paper also identifies opportunities and recommendations for Turku.

The discussion will engage representatives of the municipality with representatives of several participatory councils in Turku for youth people, older people and people with disabilities and on cultural diversity. It will also be linked to Turku’s commitments to implement the Sustainable Developments Goals and climate action.
