Maija Sakslin, Chairperson of the FRA’s Management Board, thanked the LIBE Committee for the fruitful cooperation in the appointment of the Scientific Committee and the Director’s extension, and briefed the Committee on the outcome of the external evaluation of the Agency.
Morten Kjaerum, the FRA’s Director, presented the focus session of the report, introducing the different dimensions (economic, political, and constitutional) of the crisis that marked 2012. He then presented some highlights of the Annual Report, such as in the areas of asylum and migration, alternatives to detention, hate crime data collection, and developments in equality legislation at the national level.
MEPs asked a number of questions, including on the Agency’s activities in the context of rule of law, the situation of unaccompanied minors, solidarity in the context of asylum, the situation of the Russian-speaking minorities in the Baltic States and the interaction between the Agency and other international players, including UN Rapporteurs.
