EEA and Norway Grants seminar ‘Violence against women in Europe – our response’

On 6 March 2014, the day after FRA launched the results of its EU-wide survey on violence against women, EEA and Norway Grants organised a seminar in Brussels to discuss how the survey results could be used to support activities in the 15 EU Member States which are eligible for the grants.

FRA delivered a keynote presentation, presenting the survey results and conclusions in detail. Mr Ole Kristian Hjemdal presented the results of a Norwegian survey on gender-based violence, showing results which were along the same lines as the FRA results for Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Sweden). Ms Raluca Popa from Council of Europe expressed her confidence that the Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention) will enter into force by summer 2014. Ms Pille Ruul from the Ministry of Social Affairs in Estonia presented examples of numerous activities which are being implemented in Estonia with the support of the EEA and Norway Grants to combat violence against women
