FRA was invited to present the results and conclusions of its EU-wide survey on violence against women. The discussions at the Gender Equality Commission were structured around the five strategic objectives of the Council of Europe Gender Equality Strategy 2014-2017. In addition to preventing and combating violence against women, these priorities include: combating gender stereotypes and sexism; guaranteeing equal access of women to justice; achieving balanced participation of women and men in political and public decision making; and achieving gender mainstreaming in all policies and measures. One of the key FRA opinions stemming from the survey results encourages EU Member States to ratify the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (the Istanbul Convention).
