FRA young refugees report presented to Council of the EU

On 14 November, FRA presented its upcoming report on the integration of young refugees in SCIFA, the Council of the EU’s Strategic Committee on Immigration, Frontiers and Asylum.

This report is about the integration of young non-EU nationals who arrived in the EU in 2015 and 2016 as asylum applicants. Over 2.5 million people applied for international protection in 2015 and 2016 in the 28 EU Member States, according to Eurostat.

The report paints a multifaceted picture with many good initiatives and promising practices. It also shows major gaps and challenges, many of which remain unaddressed.

FRA identified two important moments that require further attention: the transition from childhood to adulthood for unaccompanied children as well as the transition from asylum applicant to status holders.

The report is due out on 19 November.
