Discussing guardianship and age assessment for unaccompanied children in Romania

FRA took part in a workshop in Bucharest 27 and 28 February on enhancing Romania’s child protection system. FRA presented different models of guardianship in EU Member States based on its research and its handbook, and the new elements strengthening guardianship in the Pact on Migration and Asylum.

Child protection services from different regions, border authorities, as well as staff from the migration department, European Guardianship Network and representatives from Belgium, Italy and the Netherlands all attended.

The aim of the workshop was to assess the current guardianship and age assessment system and discuss possible changes needed in view of the implementation of the Asylum and Migration Pact.
