European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice adopts AI Charter

The Council of Europe’s European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice (CEPEJ) adopted a European Ethical Charter on using artificial intelligence in judicial systems.

It provides, for the first time in Europe, a framework of principles that can guide policy makers, legislators and justice professionals in addressing the rapid development of artificial intelligence in national judicial processes. After the adoption of the Charter, the agency spoke its work on AI and invited CEPEJ to familiarise themselves with the focus paper on #BigData: Discrimination in data-supported decision making.

FRA was an observer in the plenary meeting on the CEPEJ meeting which took part from 3 to 4 December in Strasbourg.
