Eurostat working group on crime and criminal justice statistics meets

The Eurostat working group on crime and criminal justice statistics met in Luxembourg from 27 to 28 May to discuss progress as well as the need to address emerging issues.

Data collected by Eurostat from the EU Member States will also contribute towards the global crime and justice statistics collected by the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, limiting in this way the burden on statistical offices to provide the statistics.

The next round of data collection, for reference year 2018, will include data on cybercrime and migrant smuggling as new topics.

The working group also discussed the progress in developing a survey on gender-based violence, which a number of EU Member States are piloting, ahead of the main survey in 2020-2022.
