FRA will host a panel debate on modern technologies used for law enforcement and fundamental rights at this year’s annual Computer, Privacy and Data Protection conference.

Panellists will discuss how existing data protection laws and potential future regulatory frameworks can best protect fundamental rights in law enforcement.

FRA will draw on evidence from its study on AI and fundamental rights and the use of facial recognition technologies.

Experts from academia, law enforcement authority, civil society and EU institutions will explore the challenges in policing and the legal requirements of the EU’s Law Enforcement Directive (LED). The European Commission will soon publish its first review of the Directive.

The panel starts at 17.15 on 24 May.
