Key findings

Using data obtained from UNIA and MRAX, CCIB collected information on all of the most severe acts of Islamophobic hate crimes in Belgium between 2012 and 2015, using the definition of the OSCE. The report provides an analytical breakdown of those hate crimes and contains in the annex detailed information on each of the 50 Islamophobic hate crimes committed between 2012 and 2015.
CCIB also makes five recommendations: 1) Better application of the anti-racism law; 2) The ministry of Interior should publish an annual hate crime report; 3) Make Circular COL13/2013 effective; 4) Create an Islamophobia cell in the Ministry of Interior; 5) Combat hate speech on the websites of newspapers.

Methodology (Qualitative/Quantitative and exact type used, questionnaires etc)

The data was obtained from UNIA and the MRAX as they collect data on offences related to racism or discrimination.
