Key findings

The findings indicate that social distance towards religious minorities, including Muslims, has increased. A significant portion of respondents expressed negative perceptions of Muslim communities, with concerns often linked to broader attitudes toward migration and security. The proportion of people unwilling to live near Muslims rose from 34% in 2022 to 46% in 2023. Similarly, reluctance to work with Muslims grew from 21% to 33%. These shifts indicate a notable surge in societal intolerance towards Muslims within a single year. Additionally, media influence remains a key factor in shaping public opinion, reinforcing existing biases. The study also found that many Lithuanians believe that refugees, including those from countries where majority of population are Muslims, could have a more negative than positive impact on society.

Methodology (Qualitative/Quantitative and exact type used, questionnaires etc)
