Human rights capacity support
- The Committee on the Constitution is supported by a secretariat with about 13 employees, of whom 7 are lawyers with a PhD or have completed training as judges or equivalent qualified positions and 3 are political scientists with a PhD.
Functions
- Annually audits the government’s actions and ministers’ conduct.
- Deals with constitutional matters, oversees human rights and democracy policies and reviews EU subsidiarity.
- Promotes accountability, transparency and stronger protections for individual rights in Sweden.

- Prepares expenditure area 1 of the Budget Bill, covering democracy, human rights and key agencies.
- Holds meetings with agency representatives during each term.
- Oversees elections and consultations for ombudsmen and the National Audit Office.
- Reviews annual reports from ombudsmen and the Institute for Human Rights.
- Has informal contact with civil society during visits.
Structured cooperation with partners at international and EU level
- Participates in interparliamentary meetings at the EU level.
- Participates in meetings with visiting foreign delegations (e.g. members of committees with a corresponding area of responsibility from other national parliaments).
