Functions

  • Caritas Slovenia is a charitable institution of the Catholic Church in Slovenia. It was established on 1 May 1990 by the Slovenian Provincial Bishops’ Conference.
  • According to the agreement with the Slovenian police (Policija), Caritas Slovenia is a contractor for monitoring the forced return of foreign nationals in compliance with Article 69 of the Foreigners Act, which set up the forced return monitoring mechanisms in accordance with the EU’s Return Directive (Directive 2008/115/EC).

Structured cooperation with partners at national level

  • Based on the contract to monitor forced returns, Caritas Slovenia regularly cooperates with the Centre for Foreigners (Center za tujce) of the Slovenian police (Policija), which prepares foreigners for forced returns in accordance with the EU’s Return Directive (Directive 2008/115/EC).

Structured cooperation with partners at international and EU level

  • The European Commission, together with experts from EU Member States, periodically assesses the forced returns of foreigners from Slovenia. A Schengen monitoring assessment is also carried out. Caritas Slovenia does not publish its own statistics on the monitoring of forced returns.
