On 15 December, the 37th meeting of the FRA Executive Board will take place, followed by the 23rd Meeting of the FRA Management Board on 15-16 December. The Management Board will welcome the new FRA Director Michael O’Flaherty, who takes up his duties on 16 December. Among other issues, the Board will finalise the mid-term review of FRA’s Strategic Plan for the years 2013-2017 and discuss the Multiannual Framework (MAF) 2018-2022, as well as the Annual Work Programme 2016 and the Programming Document for 2017-2019. It will exchange views with the Council of Europe on its cooperation with FRA. Given the topical importance of asylum issues, the agenda of this Management Board meeting will also include a strategic discussion on the scope and direction of the Agency’s work on migration in the context of the refugee crisis. FRA has significantly stepped up its efforts in this area since the publication of the European Agenda for Migration (May 2015) and in response to the ongoing arrival of large numbers of asylum seekers in the EU. At the invitation of the Austrian Federal Ministry of the Interior, a delegation of Management Board Members, accompanied by FRA experts, will also visit a reception centre for asylum seekers near Vienna and have an exchange on aspects of interest from a fundamental rights perspective
