On 19 October, FRA will address the 18th WAVE (Women against Violence Europe) conference in Berlin, on the situation of refugee women, gender-based violence and racism in Europe.
FRA’s work over the last months on the asylum crisis has served to underline that women and girls are particularly vulnerable to physical and sexual abuse when they are on the move into and through Europe, and when staying in reception and other centres. At the same time, hate crimes against asylum seekers, with women being particular targets in some instances, adds another layer of abuse.
The WAVE conference is a large, international gathering of NGOs, policy makers and academics, from across Europe and further afield, that addresses various forms of violence against women. The situation of refugee women will be a particular focus given the on-going asylum crisis in 2016.
