The Agency will address participants during the opening of a conference on Forced Return Monitoring in Vienna on 17 November.
The conference is part of an EU-funded project, led by the International Centre for Migration Policy Development. Member States that take part in this project are: Austria, Czech Republic, Greece, Sweden, Latvia, Bulgaria, Luxembourg, Finland, Hungary, Malta, Netherlands, Portugal and Romania. The Agency and the European Border and Coast Guard agency, Frontex, are in the project steering committee.
The project aims to set up a pool of European return monitors, which will ultimately be governed by Frontex. It will do capacity building, exchange practices and procedural elements for setting up and running the pool smoothly. It will also carry out research on coercive measures and how those are applied. The Agency will continue to provide an annual update on forced return monitoring in EU Member States.
