FRA will host a panel discussion at the annual Computers, Privacy & Data Protection conference in Brussels on 26 January.
The panel will discuss the fundamental rights implications of using biometrics in Europe’s large-scale migration and security information systems. Discussions will cover both existing systems as well as proposed systems. The advantages and disadvantages of using biometrics will be explored. During the conference, the Agency will also draw on its surveillance findings during a panel discussion on 25 January on whether the nationality of an individual under surveillance is and should be relevant to the legal standards for surveillance. As one of the sponsors of the conference, the Agency will also be present throughout the event with an information stand from 24 to 26 January.
