The FRA Director Michael O’Flaherty will speak under the agenda item “Future and perspectives on the EU”, at the meeting of the chairmen of the Conference of European Committees (COSAC) on 9 July.
This meeting will start the parliamentary dimension of the Austrian EU Presidency. The chairmen of the European committees in the parliaments of the EU member states will discuss with representatives of the EU Parliament and European Commission on subsidiarity within the EU as well as the current challenges such as Brexit and the migration question.
The first interparliamentary meeting under Austrian presidency will be opened by the President of the National Council, Wolfgang Sobotka, and the President of the Federal Council, Inge Posch-Gruska. The meeting will be chaired by the two chairmen of the European committees in the National Council and Federal Councilor Reinhold Lopatka and Christian Buchmann.
Following a presentation of the priorities of the Austrian EU Presidency by Secretary of State Karoline Edtstadler, Frans Timmermanns, First Vice-President of the European Commission and Mairead McGuiness, Vice-President of the European Parliament, will comment on the future and perspectives of the European Union.
Timmermanns will also talk about the latest developments in the Task Force on Subsidiarity set up by Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, which will close shortly thereafter.
