FRA will moderate the discussion following a screening of the film ‘The Queen of Ireland’ during a side event of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights’ Human Dimension Implementation Meeting.

The Irish Permanent Representation in Warsaw is organising a discussion on this documentary with the Irish drag queen Panti Bliss (alter ego of Rory O’Neill), one or more Polish LGBTI activists and members of the audience. The discussion will focus on the current situation of LGBTI activists in Poland and if, and how, support from allies can help.

In May 2015, Ireland became the first country in the world to approve same-sex marriage by popular vote. Released less than six months after the referendum, the documentary film ‘The Queen of Ireland’ focused on O’Neill’s role in the marriage equality campaign.

The side event will take place on 18 September in Warsaw.
