FRA Director Michael O’Flaherty and the Council of Europe Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić agreed and exchanged letters on further developing cooperation for the European Union Fundamental Rights Information System (EFRIS). EFRIS brings together data about the acceptance of human rights treaties as well as assessment by monitoring mechanisms.

FRA developed this online ‘human rights gateway’ in close cooperation with the United Nations Human Rights Office and the Council of Europe. EFRIS includes several Council of Europe mechanisms: the European Court of Human Rights, the European Committee of Social Rights and the anti-corruption mechanism GRECO, CPT, ECRI and the follow-up on the implementation of judgments by the European Court of Human Rights (the Execution Department). In 2021, further Council of Europe mechanisms, GRETA and GREVIO, will be added. EFRIS provides heightened visibility for Council of Europe mechanisms and the findings of its monitoring bodies are made easily accessible and searchable. The Council of Europe also participates in the EFRIS advisory group.
