FRA will speak at a conference on ‘Democracy Under Threat’ that will take place on 14 November in Vienna. The Delegation of the Government of Catalonia to Central Europe, the International Institute for Peace in Vienna (IIP), in partnership with the City of Vienna’s Office for Human Rights organised the conference.

It is the third of an international cycle of democracy conferences launched by the Government of Catalonia to underscore the importance of multilateral and local institutions as key actors in safeguarding and renewing democratic resilience.

The Vienna conference will convene representatives of government, international organisations, academia, thinks tanks and civil society and focus on a multilateral approach to security.

A protected and enabled civil society strengthens democracy through its role as a watchdog, by contributing to good lawmaking, amplifying voices, and fostering civic engagement and social cohesion. This will also be demonstrated in FRA’s civic space report to be published in early 2026.
